HANG_BAG

Nowadays, waste management is one of the major global challenges, with HANG_BAG we merge two products in one using paper and cardboard, 100% recyclable materials. In the fast-fashion industry, besides clothing, bags and hangers are widely used items, so this concept would reduce at least half of the waste generated by these objects.

1st prize winning project in ‘Smurfit Kappa Challenge’.

inspiration

Moodboard of original hangers.

The focus was a hanger made with cardboard that allows storing a cloth. Unlike our proposal, these options cannot be used in the stores before the customer buys it.

ideation

In this part we looked for solutions to each problem we found with the initial concept.

The result should have an ergonomic grip, resist cloth’s weight, be intuitive for shop assistants and reusable for customers.

prototyping

Through different prototypes we tested the specifications defined above and found the ideal proportions, taking the manufacturing process into account. We worked with standardised paper bags and cardboard sheets to create them.

result

The final result is a cardboard hanger sized to be used with different kinds of clothes which inside of it has a folded paper bag glued at the top.

The first use of the product is in the shop, where the shop assistants place the clothes on the hanger. The customer will take the product and the hanger to the cashier and there it will be opened at the bottom to transform it into a bag. After the purchase, the client will be able to reuse the hanger at home, taking the bag off and joining both cardboard sides.
